Overview
Lihtar Studio's The Witcher is a fan-driven animated adaptation inspired by "A Grain of Truth", one of the most beloved stories from Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series.
Our goal was to bring this unforgettable tale to life while showcasing our vision for how it could work as an animated adaptation. Rather than recreating existing interpretations, we focused on exploring the themes, characters, and atmosphere that make the story resonate with fans around the world.

The Challenge
The Witcher universe is rich with folklore, moral ambiguity, complex characters, and haunting creatures. Sapkowski's words immerse you in modern themes raised in the medieval setting, all while following the lonely path of a hero in a cynical world around him. We wanted to honor that depth while crafting a visual experience that immediately felt authentic to fans and engaging to new audiences.
Our Approach
We began by exploring the foundations of the world itself. Every design decision, storyboard sequence, and animation choice was rooted in understanding what makes The Witcher unique.
Instead of focusing solely on action, we explored the relationships between people, monsters, and the world they inhabit. This approach allowed us to create a project that feels grounded in the franchise's defining themes.
Understanding The World
The Universe
As fans, we love the Witcher universe for its rich, immersive world that combines folklore, dark fantasy, and intricate storytelling.
The Witcher universe is both familiar and unique, blending medieval elements with magic and mythical creatures. Geralt’s journey leads us through complex character stories, moral dilemmas, and deep, captivating lore.
The Witchers
Witchers are unique and fascinating beings with complex and challenging backstories. Their transformation from ordinary individuals into skilled monster hunters involves grueling trials and mutations that grant extraordinary abilities.
This journey is filled with hardships and sacrifices, creating a compelling narrative that makes the Witchers some of the most fascinating characters in fantasy.
Monsters
The world of The Witcher is filled with creatures, dangers, and mysteries. Beyond the monsters themselves, the wilderness plays a significant role in shaping Geralt’s journeys.
Long roads, untamed forests, wild animals, and deadly creatures all contribute to a world where survival is never guaranteed.
The Populace
Humans, elves, dwarves, and countless other races coexist within a fragile and often tense social landscape.
We were particularly interested in exploring these relationships and the cultural dynamics that define everyday life in the Continent. By understanding these interactions, we could create a more authentic interpretation of the world and its conflicts.
Character Development
Vereena
At first glance, Vereena appears fragile and quiet, but beneath that calm exterior hides a deadly vampire.
Her relationship with Nivellen became a key focus during development. Drawn to his strength and isolation, she sees him as both protector and companion. Their bond creates one of the story's most compelling emotional conflicts.
Nivellen
Nivellen's monstrous appearance immediately inspires fear, yet beneath it lies a tragic and deeply human character.
Despite his curse and isolation, he remains a man forced to confront the consequences of his past actions. His large frame and intimidating silhouette were balanced by softer facial features, reflecting the vulnerability hidden beneath his exterior.
Geralt
Known as the White Wolf, Geralt is instantly recognizable through his white hair, cat-like eyes, and twin swords.
For our adaptation, we wanted to emphasize his bestial nature and physical presence. His design focused on strength, experience, and the practical tools of his profession while preserving the iconic qualities fans know and love.
